The Metropolitan Museum of Art held its annual gala which celebrated a new exhibit, Punk: Chaos to Couture.  It seems like every celeb flew out to the Big Apple for the chaotic event, which was co-chaired by Anna Wintour and Rooney Mara.

Film Review: Iron Man 3

This weekend I celebrated my  26th 22nd  birthday with fun, friends, and Robery Downey Jr. (in 3D that is). I’ll admit, my heart was set on The Big Wedding but after bad reviews and peer pressure, I caved in and agreed to watch Iron Man 3.

Now, the first ten minutes went something like this:

 Me: Do you have anything with caffeine?

Friend: No, why?

Me: My eyelids are about to fall shut, this movie is slow. How hard is it to introduce a villain and blow stuff up?

Friend: {distracted} that couple in front of us ::points:: he’s way too cute for her.

::BOOOM:: Gwyneth is wearing the Iron Man suit.

We both turn to each other with confused looks and finally start paying attention.

I honestly think you don’t have to watch the first two to enjoy this one.

It was full of action, surprises, and a happy ending (for now).

Goopified: Banana Ice-Cream with Sweet and Salty Roasted Almonds

I don’t have an Oscar, Beyonce is not my best friend, and my husband doesn’t front a rock band but thanks to Gwyneth Paltrow’s cookbook I can still enjoy a taste of the Goop life.  So before I visit my local grocer (Ralphs) and we embark on this kitchen adventure, let me slip on an organic tee so we can begin.

 “Banana “Ice-Cream” with Sweet and Salty Roasted Almonds

Out of all the recipes, this one seemed easy and fun to make (just as long as you ignore the 3 hour prep time). It also  seemed like the perfect snack, for those who are keeping an eye on their intake, lactose intolerant, or vegan/vegetarian.

Prep Time: 3 1/2hrs

What You Will Need:

– 4 Bananas (peeled and sliced into rounds)

– 1 small packet of chopped or slivered almonds (preferably toasted, but if you can’t buy them that way, you can toast them yourself in the oven)

– 2 Tbsp of Maple Syrup (we used Agave syrup) and an additional 2 tsp of Maple Syrup (kept separate)

-1/2 Tbsp of coarse sea salt

– 1/2 cup of unsweetened Almond Milk

-2 Tbsp of Vanila Extract

Step One:

Line a tray with wax paper and set aside.  Peel bananas and thinly slice them into rounds.  Lay down rounds on lined tray and pop in the freezer for 3hrs.

Step Two:

In a bowl mix almonds, 2 Tbsp of syrup, and salt.  Set aside.

Step Three

Blend the frozen bananas, almond milk, and remaining 2 tsp of syrup in a blender until creamy, like ice cream.

Step Four

Sprinkle almonds on top and serve.

Book Review: It’s All Good

She might have a different sense of reality than most of us and her Spring essentials on GOOP cost more than some people’s homes but all that aside, I actually like Gwyneth Paltrow.  Her new cookbook, It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great, is a recipe for success to healthier eating ( for the rich).

She starts off by giving insight as to why she switched to gluten free food, which is respectable but not practical for everyone. You don’t have to spend a million dollars to eat healthier. Some of her recipes are easy while other suggest things, like “contact local fishmonger,” umm yeah…I actually had to look that up.

I can honestly say, that I have horrible eating patterns and have no clue as to what vegans, vegetarians, or those “gluten-free” consumers look for when making food. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to knock it down because it’s not for me. If anything, I will try out one of the recipes! It’s always important to expand one’s horizons.

So, if you have time, money, and can contact your local fishmonger, then I say, do it!

Shuffle Drink Thursday: The Chloe Cleanse

For most of us who aren’t Gwyneth Paltrow (sorry, Gwynny, see you next week) it’s not practical for us to spend $400 every time we need a cleanse.  So we turn to our other lifestyle Guru: Chloe, the dearly departed B from Apartment 23.

Put on your softest robe (stolen from the Four Seasons) and bribe the person closest to you to mix up this spiked spa drink that will let you detox and lose those bags without being a drag.

To make this kicked up spa water you will need  the following:

-1 cup of water

-Juice of 2 squeezed lemons

-1 shot of vodka

-1/2 cucumber  (sliced)

-A pinch of minced ginger (approx. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp)

-Extra lemon slices (optional)

Mix everything together in a big girl tumbler and stir.  Then pop in the fridge to let the water absorb the flavors (an hour or so).

You can also scale this up if you want to make a pitcher or share it with a friend!

Cucumbers act as an anti-inflammatory to balance out the burn from the booze while the ginger and lemon help you keep your yogurt down.
