This Week On: Stalkwick Portfolio

Hello Lovelies!

So much to share this week on our StalkWick Portfolio.  I have been playing around with different names for our weekly roundups and I think “StalkWick Portfolio” might stay.  It’s a play on version of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women’s imaginary newspaper called the “Pickwick Portfolio“.  What do you guys think? Should it stay or should I go back to the drawing board?

I’m happy to report that we did have quite a lovely week full of activities including a wonderful visit by my one only brother, Ellie, a small shopping spree, some garden decorating, and some DIY projects!

1.I had a small shopping spree at Aldo.  I was due for a new purse, and I ended up picking up 2 pairs of sunglasses and a necklace.  I just couldn’t resist the 2 for $20 deal on the sunglasses and well the necklace was just an added bonus.

2. My mom was bent on getting a mermaid for our poolside garden, and I went on Amazon to see if I could find a decent one.  I ended up getting this cute one that looks like it dug itself into the rocks.  It is super cute, but the only problem is the size.  I thought it would be bigger, but it was actually smaller than I thought.  I was a little disappointed because it was suppose to be the last piece to complete that garden area.   It still looks good, but I expected it to be a little bigger for the price.  What do you guys think?

3. I have been looking for an earring holder to hang some earrings, and I this one below at Ross for 10 bucks!  Only problem was that it was black, so I decided to spray paint it gold to go with my overall decor in my jewelry cabinet.  I think it came out pretty good!

4. I finally decided to finish my wall art up -cycling project that I wanted to do on the left hand side of my fireplace.  I bought some frames at Ikea, and used some pictures I found on the internet, an old picture frame that was left from a set of 3, and a cool gift bag I decided to frame.  All I had to do was figure out a good arrangement, so I did my test trail on the floor before they went up.  After I was sure of the layout, the hubs put them up using some Velcro mountable tape.

5. Lastly, I found this really cool mug that reminded me of Ellie.  He is such a beach lover that I couldn’t resist getting him this mug so he could drink his tea in.

How was your week?

The 10 Minute Face

Being that I am not a celebrity and don’t have a “Glamsquad” as part of my entourage that are with me every waking moment to do my makeup and hair or that I have 2 to 3 hours to sit in a chair to get the perfect look, I have to find something that works  for the everyday average woman.  I mean don’t get me wrong, I wish I could be like Giselle and sit back and relax as a my team makes me look flawless, but I’m not so back don’t to earth again.

I just finished reading cover to cover Jessica Alba’s The Honest Life, and one of her tips that I found really useful was her “10 Minute Face“.  I found it refreshing because it really caters to us regular folks who are constantly on the run and don’t have enough time in the day.  It also really spoke to me because I have been doing the “10 Minute Face” my whole working life, so it was nice to see it written down step by step.

Here is Jessica’s version:

After reading and reviewing that section, I decided to write down my 10 minute beauty routine and share it with you all.  But before I share it, I wanted to give you a little prep work to do before you start applying the makeup.

It’s really important to always wash your face in the morning (don’t forget nighttime too!).  I usually alternate from a regular face wash to an exfoliating face wash.  Normally if you do an exfoliating face wash make sure not to do more than 1-2x a week.  I’m a big fan of Lush products, so I like to use their Ocean Salt scrub for exfoliation and Herbalism on regular days.  Sometimes I use Burt’s Bee Radiance Facial Cleanser to change it up.  I love both those brands because they are gentle on my skin and are all natural.

After I do the face wash, I spray some Tea Tree Water Toner from Lush, blot it around my face with my fingers or cotton ball and let it air dray for a few seconds.  Once it’s  dry, I moisturize. I usually use the Gorgeous moisturizer and let it absorb into my skin.  So that’s when I usually do my hair then put on my makeup last.

 My 10 Minute Makeup

1. Apply tinted moisturize with some sunscreen.  I use Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer -Illuminating Broad Spectrum SPF 20 sunscreen.  Eventhough the tinted moisturizer has sunscreen, I still dab some regular sunscreen too.  I am currently using the Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF 30.  I usually will put a drop of each on the palm of my hand and mix it together and then apply all over my face using my fingertips.

2. While I let my foundation set, I fill in my eyebrows using  It Cosmetics’ Brow Power  Universal Brow Pencil.  I then go ahead and use concealer to hide any blemishes or dark circles.  I am currently using Makeup Forever Full Cover Extreme Camouflage Cream waterproof.

3. I curl my lashes using my Revlon lash curler, then use Christian  Cosmetics’ Super Long Lash Treatment Mascara in Mammey Oil Black.  I am currently obsessed with this mascara! You can only find it at the swapmeets for about $3-$5.  It stays all day long, and makes your lashes super long.

4. I dab some NYX Rouge Cream Blush in orange on the apples of my checks and a little on the sides of my forehead.

5.  Lastly, I put on some lip gloss.  For a natural look, I have been using Tony Moly’s Fruit Princess Gloss.  Tony Moly is a Filipino makeup brand that is usually sold at Korean beauty department stores.  I came across it at a Korean galleria in Los Angeles called The Center on 6th.  The have wonderful beauty products!.

What are your 10 minute makeup tips and tricks?

A Chemical Peel for Breakfast

For the past couple of months, I’ve been seeing this guy who is seriously into brandy (the drink not the singer who I think killed someone? ). He even  gave me some type of medical reasoning behind it but naturally I lost him at “medically speaking…”

Of course being the domestic goddess that I am, I now make sure my apartment is stocked with the medical juice.  Anyways, the other morning, I woke up channeling my inner Julia Child and made him the perfect breakfast on the rocks. As I went back to bed and stared longingly into his eyes, he opened his mouth to say, “thanks, and by the way, I think you’re getting wrinkles. Try some brandy on them.”  That’s when I took a deep breathe, paused and thought, “ok, how would Kate Upton Middleton handle this?” It then dawned on me that Dr. Oz had done a segment on liquor and lemons (again,  selective hearing at its best).

So I popped out my tablet,  did a bit of research and voila, I discovered the face mask recipe.  The next thing you know,  I found myself adding this (2x a month) to my beauty regime.

“The acid of the lemon, the lactic acid of the milk and the alcohol in the brandy in this face mask work together to exfoliate and brighten your face, naturally reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.” -Dr. Oz

The best part is it’s easy and requires three simple things.

1 cup milk

2 tsp lemon juice

1 tbsp brandy

Step 1: Mix the ingredients.

Step 2: Pour yourself a shot or 2 on the side (optional).

Step 3: Apply with a brush and let dry. To be on the safe side, I kept it on for 10 mins and then I washed my face.

This mask is definitely a must for anyone who wants to keep waking up to a quality man, and by a  “quality man” I mean CEOs, producers, or surgeons.

Sibling Get-Together

My brother and I had some well deserved sibling time this past weekend!  The both of us have been absentee from the blogger world for about a month due to school and regular “life” stuff that happens, but we are happy to report that we are ending our small hiatus.

Even though we both are starting Summer Sessions in our respective schools, it feels good to be back on the horse and into the drawing board.  This week we had a little get-together, and I was really excited to have him come up to visit me and stay for a couple of days before he has his Spring Finals.

What did we do, you ask?

Had a relaxing afternoon & evening outside our patio! Ellie made a nice appetizer spread and I popped open a bottle of red wine.

At night, we had a mini slumber party and pigged out on junk food while we watched Vampire Academy, LOL.  Truth be told the movie wasn’t that good, but we were crushing on the actor (Danila Kozlovsky) who played Dimitri. He’s one tall drink of water, swoon! It’s like we were 12yrs old again.

The next day, he treated me to a delicious chicken salad sandwich accompanied with a beautiful watermelon spread!

Watermelon balls made with a melon baller surrounded by lemon wedges!

I felt so spoiled by Ellie this weekend that I can’t wait until we do it again!
