Basket Full of Sunshine

Growing up, I loved Easter for the sole purpose of receiving gifts. Now, as a 25 21 year old adult, not much has changed but instead of chocolate bunnies and egg hunts, I prefer more practical things, like face masks and lip balm. The way I see it is if I’m going to get a gift, shouldn’t it be one I can use instead of eat?

Who says Easter baskets are only for kids? Inside this basket is a great gift idea for anyone in your life.

Film Review: Temptation

Mover over Spielberg, Nolan, and Lucas because in case you haven’t noticed, Tyler Perry can also direct, write, and produce his own films (and occasionally star in them, too).  His latest masterpiece, Temptation, proves that you can never go wrong by throwing in a bunch of drama, hot bods (no, not Kim Kardashian), and a never aging, Brandy Norwood (for those of you who’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about).

The film follows Judith, a young aspiring marriage counselor, whose boring marriage sends her into the arms of Harley, a gorgeous black version of Mark Zuckerberg. Yes, it’s been done, so what makes it different? Well, the plot twist, duh! You won’t believe it until you see it.

So grab your friends or significant other and make it a date night because once Judith’s fate is revealed, you’ll definitely be asking  yourselves, “was it worth it?”

Product Review: Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps

When taking a shower, I normally use an exfoliating body wash but lately, I’ve been wanting to switch it up and try something new. A couple of days ago, I was browsing the aisles at Target and came across Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. I’m not going to lie, the first thing that appealed to me was the presentation, it just looked healthy. Then after carefully reading the all organic ingredients, I was sold!

The next day, all I could think about was trying out this  lavender soap! It was literally the highlight of my night (yes, I’m single). As I got ready for my shower, I unwrapped the soap (which for all you eco friendly people, it’s made from 10% hemp-flax / 90% post-consumer recycled paper from Living Tree Paper Co.),  and the smell was exhilarating, it smelled like fresh lavender and a hint of cleanliness.  After that my body was ready to  hit town with this “magic” soap.  Let me just say, it was a very pleasant experience. My skin felt clean and without residue. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Since it doesn’t come in a container (like most soaps) I placed it in a container so things wouldn’t get messy and I could get more use out if it.

Shuffle Drink Thursday: The Chloe Cleanse

For most of us who aren’t Gwyneth Paltrow (sorry, Gwynny, see you next week) it’s not practical for us to spend $400 every time we need a cleanse.  So we turn to our other lifestyle Guru: Chloe, the dearly departed B from Apartment 23.

Put on your softest robe (stolen from the Four Seasons) and bribe the person closest to you to mix up this spiked spa drink that will let you detox and lose those bags without being a drag.

To make this kicked up spa water you will need  the following:

-1 cup of water

-Juice of 2 squeezed lemons

-1 shot of vodka

-1/2 cucumber  (sliced)

-A pinch of minced ginger (approx. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp)

-Extra lemon slices (optional)

Mix everything together in a big girl tumbler and stir.  Then pop in the fridge to let the water absorb the flavors (an hour or so).

You can also scale this up if you want to make a pitcher or share it with a friend!

Cucumbers act as an anti-inflammatory to balance out the burn from the booze while the ginger and lemon help you keep your yogurt down.

Feel refreshed and ready to take on the day!

How To Fall Into Temptation

Tyler Perry’s Temptation comes out tomorrow!

We are counting down the hours, minutes and seconds for it to come out on Friday,  March 29th. Although we are not so thrilled about seeing Kim Kardashian’s robotic drone acting, we can’t wait to see little Denise (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) from Full House all grown up and ready to fall into sin with Robby Jones.

In honor of the movie, we have some Tyler Perry inspired fashion for the premiere!

Film Review: The Croods

Last night, my friends and I decided to go the movies. We didn’t really know what was playing and when it came down to it, everything looked stupid. I love Paul Rudd but come on, Admission? When studios green light those kind of projects, I often think, “are they running out of film ideas?”  As for for James Franco’s Spring Breakers, eh, bikini’s and guns, I think I’ll pass.  So last minute, my friend made the executive decision that we would watch, The Croods, which to be honest, I knew nothing about. I went in with no expectations, I didn’t even know it was an animated film.

Well, let me just say, I was shockingly surprised because I absolutely loved it. I’ll admit, animated films are not really my cup of tea but this was great. It had a fun plot, good laughs, and not to mention, I loved the character, Eep (voiced by Emma Stone).

The only thing I recommend is to pay attention to the opening credits because for a good fifteen minutes, I asked myelf, “what time period are they living in?”

Femispiration: The Bombshell

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery.

Til this day so many women try and replicate Marilyn’s look.  Why do you think that is?  Is it because she is sultry and sexy, a great actress, or a mystery? I think it was because she was an ordinary gal; who skyrocketed into fame and fortune.   Whatever it may be, there is no doubt that she not only is an icon but a legend.  She will always be frozen in time and looked upon for style and beauty now and forever.
