Sun Adventures: Whale Watching

What do you get the person that has everything? Well, this past Christmas, my best friend gave me a whale watching certificate to Davey’s Locker . My initial reaction was umm…

Gee thanks!

Five months later while cleaning out my desk, I found the voucher. Rather than letting it go to waste, I called up some friends and whale watching we went!

Now, I’m no stranger to Newport Beach (one of my ex’s lived right on the beach) but first of all, I had forgotten how lengthy the drive can be ( according to navigation, 90 mins with traffic). But little did we know, that would be the least of our worries.  When we finally arrived to the land of Orange and Plastic, the parking was terrible! The valet was FULL!! I mean, really?? In Los Angeles, that’s unheard of!!! And the parking lots and meter parking were like nonexistent. It seriously took us an hour, lots of complaining, two bathroom breaks, and a near death experience to park!

Car lagged, tired. and hungry, we finally made our way and got on the boat.

Goodbye Land, hello Free Willy…or so we thought.

Twenty minutes into the water, there was a lot of sight seeing:

Cute boats

Cute guys in boats (for a moment I seriously forgot why I was on a boat, I was too distracted). 4 guys and a boat sounds like a whole lot of fun, if you know what I mean.

Some anchovies (not pictured because they’re so small).

But yet still no whales!!!

The highlight of our trip, the seals who stole our hearts!

Two and a half hours later, the boat ride had come to an end. Since, there were no whales in sight, they did give us  a 50% off coupon for a future visit, which was cool.

Although I will say, the best thing to come out of Newport is the Dipped Cheesecake Stick…that alone is worth the drive!

Until next time, Newport (I’m sure I’ll be seeing your eligible doctors, real soon).
