You & Me & 5 Bucks

One of my all time favorite movies is Reality Bites with Winona Ryder & Ethan Hawke, and one of many quotable scenes is the “You and me and five bucks“.  Of course, in that scene, the characters were referring to being able to have a good time on a coffee & cigarette budget.  Granted nowadays a coffee may run you 5 bucks, but in fashion there can be such a thing as having a good time and looking great on a budget. So just because (like me) you can’t buy those $400 Miu Miu sunglasses doesn’t mean that there aren’t some affordable knock-offs to be had.

On my recent family visit to San Diego, I found this hole-in-the-wall shop at the mall with quite reasonable prices, including a pair of sunglasses for only 5 bucks, that are ringers for the brand name ones I’ve been eyeing lately.  I was super ecstatic, nabbed them right away, and walked away feeling like true fashionista winner, hahaha.

So remember just because you can’t drop down big cash on a pair of sunglasses, doesn’t meant that you can’t look and feel like a million bucks.  Shop your local boutique shop or go to downtown, and you will find that $5 treasure, I promise!

The Haunting of Dolce & Gabana

I have been obsessed with these intricately laced gold rimmed sunglasses from the Dolce & Gabbana Baroque Collection. They look like they were specifically made for a princess. I can’t get away from them. They are everywhere I go. It’s like they are haunting me. Every time I pick up a magazine, they are just calling my name beckoning to buy them, but with their hefty price tag you would think I would have exorcised their ghost. Instead I picked out the perfect outfit that would go great with them and a saucy shade of velvety red lipstick.

So D&G if you’re reading this, Christmas is coming up and I’ve been a very good girl. I know it wouldn’t pain you to lose a pair of those glasses. You can even give me the defective one off the assembly line ( you know the one that’s missing the G from Gabana). I would still wear them tall and proud because I know that you would have made this princess’s dream come true. After all don’t we all deserve to be princesses?

P.S. If it’s not to much to ask, you can throw in the matching tiara and earrings too!

Stash Your Shades: Creative Ways to Organize Your Sunglasses

“I wear my sunglasses at night, So I can, So I can
See the light that’s right before my eyes”

–Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart

With Summer already in motion, it was way past time to bust out and organize my sunglasses collection.  I wanted to find places where they’d be neat and tidy but I could still grab them on the go.  Here is what I came up with.

1. Gift Box

I recycled my striped gift box to put some of my sunglasses and placed it on my dresser for quick access.

2. Ribbon

I had some pink ribbon so made some cute bows at the end of each side and tacked them on the sides of my Ikea white board.  The board is right near the front door for that quick last minute decision!

3. Picture Frame

I grabbed this picture frame and laid out a couple of pairs for the week.

4. Decorative Piece

I have a travel jewelry box in the shape of a purse, and I arranged some sunglasses for a cool display in my jewelry cabinet.

Where would you stow your sunglasses?

Don’t forget to wear them during the day too!
