My Secret Nail Weapon

I don’t know about you, but one thing I hate when I’m doing my own nails is waiting for the polish to dry. I’m so impatient. I just want to apply my coats and go. Que fab find…

About a month, I was randomly perusing the beauty aisles at my local Walmart and low and behold I see this hairspray like can that says “Professional Nail Dryer” by Onyxprofessional.  At first, I was kinda skeptical because it looked too good to be true especially since my last attempt to purchase something to dry my nails was a big fail (Essie quick-e), but after reading the directions on the back and looking over some googled reviews, 8 decided to give it a try.

Let me tell you, I was very impressed!! I followed the simple direction of holding the can 6-8 inches away from my nails and gave a quick spray to each nail. Then, I let about 5 minutes pass by and gently touched each of my nails to see if they were dry, and guess what? THEY WERE!!! Wootwoot!! [Confetti thrown in the air] I’ve used this product about 5x in the last month and it never fails. There has been some times I’ve had to do a second round of spray just to be on the safe side, but it hasn’t let me down yet! Oh, wait, did I forget to mention it was only $2.48? Yes, yes it was for a whole 8.5oz. That’s like cheaper than my hairspray bottle!!

Sunnyside Memories

Hello Beauties!

I hope everyone has been enjoying their Summer so far!

I’m writing this in desperate need of some coffee so if I start to slur off you will know that I probably dozed off, hehe. I promised to write at least 3x a week, but last week I went on a mini-vacay without internet access to be found. But I’m back and happy to share my beautiful week with you!

I went on a mini-vacay to sunny San Diego to visit my family.  I mean I’m not that far away-it’s like a 2hr drive from the High Desert, but I don’t visit often so it was nice to get away. It’s always nice to revisit childhood memories like the smell of my grandmother’s garden spearmint.  It makes me feel 9yrs old again!  Of course, there is always something beautiful & memorable about my visits….

like the colorful dainty cup my aunt served my coffee in

and the grogeous lone red rose I saw at the entrance of my grandmother’s front door

or my aunt’s show and tell shopping trip to the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market which was hilarious but I did find great deals!

and of course trying out my new hairdo.

It was a wonderful trip with beautiful weather and a batch full of new memories!

The New Stalking Beauty

Hello Beauties!

Clarity here, excited to let you know that Stalking Beauty went through a transformation! Yaay!

This blog has now turned into a one woman show!  We had originally started Stalking Beauty as a two sibling perspective, but since one of us decided to go in a different direction and pursue other endeavors, Stalking Beauty is strictly my own blog now.  That isn’t to say that I won’t have great guest bloggers every now and then and maybe a cameo appearance here and there from my brother Ellie.

My goal with this blog is to just bring you my take on life which includes: fashion, beauty, design, entertainment, and food, so in other words most of what I’ve been loving and sharing with you all along.  I hope that you like it and choose to stick around!

A little bit about me.  I am a graduate student who hopes to graduate by the end of this year with a Masters in Human Development and hopes to start her own Child Development Specialist Consultant business.  I have 20 years experience in trying to improve the needs of children and their families.  I started this blog with the purpose of getting my creative writing skills flowing again since I have loved to write since I can remember.  My passions are jewelry, reading, music, and my cute little Maltese named Cash.  I currently am an Independent Jewelry Consultant and hope to share some of my style tips and deals with you once a week.

Since I am currently working on my thesis, it doesn’t allow much time to do fun writing on the side, but my goal is to at least publish posts three times a week for now.  I hope that you will like and enjoy the new and updated version of this blog!

Have a Wonderful Day!

Stalking Weekly

This weeks stalks include sweets, scents, soul, icons, and relief.

1. Le Mervetty

My brother surprised me with some luxurious sweets from Le Mervetty in Beverly Hills.  We both had our heart set on going together, but because I’ve been out of commission, I haven’t been able to go.  So to cheer me up, he arrived with these delectable noms to brighten my day.  Let me tell you, they were sooo good! I felt like I was eating a delicious fluffy cloud.  Just thinking about it makes me want some more.

2. Mitsouko by Guerlain

This perfume by Guerlain is my current Spring scent obsession.  I can’t get enough of it. I was extremely happy to get this as a birthday gift from the hubs this month.  It’s a velvety spicy light scent with a hint of peach and jasmine.  A great signature perfume for sure.

3.  The Untethered Soul

I usually meditate everyday, but before I do that, I like to read something soulful or spiritual.  My current read is The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer.  I’m about 5 chapters in, and it’s pretty good.  It really makes you contemplate on the question, “Who Am I?”, and most importantly teach you how to disconnect from the “movie” that you’re in to find inner peace.

4. Harper’s Bazaar Emojis

I was so excited when I saw these fashionable emojis, but it soon turned bittersweet.  I downloaded the app on my iPad (only available for iOS) to soon find out that you can’t actually use it for it’s designed purpose.  It doesn’t work on the keyboard.  You can share it to your social media, but as a picture, not as emoji so that was disappointing.  You can also email or text the emoji, but it does the same thing.  It was a great idea, but big flop.  Maybe they’ll work out the kinks later.

5. Salt, Heat, & Pills

All week, I have been trying to nurture my poor knee and back from pain.  It’s pretty horrible because , at times, I can’t even sleep at night.  I did go to the doctors, and I was given some pain meds.  So right now, I’m doing my best impression of Elizabeth Taylor and using a heating pad, soaking with bath salts, & popping some pills.  Maybe in a couple of weeks, I ‘ll start feeling more like Beyonce again, hehehe.  (P.S. if you know any knee pain remedies, let me know)

Eye Must Have

I’m the kind of person that even if I partied a little too much, I still manage to wash my face and follow my nightly beauty regime.

Once upon a time ago, I drank a little too much, I threw up inside my friend’s car , all over myself  ( I know not a pretty picture) ,and yet I still managed to come home and follow my night-time beauty routine.   If that’s not dedication and hard work, I don’t know what is! And the funny part is, I don’t even remember being carried to my bed, I just remember waking up to a fresh face and soft lips. Oh, to be a teen again….kidding (I was 22).

The point of my story?  Beauty does matter, there’s no excuse. Even if you’re intoxicated or go home with a guy, you should always remember to pack the essentials: moisturizer, face wash, mouth wash, and most importantly, eye cream!

I was 21 when my mom first recommended that I start using eye cream.   She’s always said that one’s age can always be noticed around the eyes, neck, and hands. Five years later, I still get carded every time I try to watch an R rated film.

And since I am in such a good mood, I decided to share my top three eye creams:

L’OCCITANE’S Divine Eyes:

At first, I was a little hesitant to buy it because I thought the sales lady just wanted to sell me things I didn’t need.   But before I walked out, she gave me a stack of samples to try at home. Naturally, I jumped at the chance and the next thing you know, I became addicted. I did notice improvement around my eyes so if you’re willing to shell out the $76 for cream, do it. You won’t be disappointed.

Lush’s Enchanted Eye Cream:

I actually got this as a present (til this day, I still wonder if it was meant as an insult but whatever).   After using it for over a month, I noticed that my dark circles were fading away.   Well, to be honest, lately, I’ve been all about giving myself a reasonable amount of sleep from 4-11.  I would definitely recommend this lotion because it doesn’t involve harsh chemicals and it works.   So if you’re all about natural products, this would be the one for you.  $27

Avon’s Elements Moisture Boost Eye Cream:

I know most of you have a tia (that’s “aunt” for non-Spanish speakers) who sells Avon, so do yourself a favor and order ten of these. I was so shocked that this eye cream worked!   This works wonders for those of you who have oily or combination skin (like me).  It’s not too oily and I noticed results in about 2 weeks, no joke.   And for the price, everyone should try it because it’s pretty affordable.   This is definitely meant for those who want beauty on a budget. $9

Stalking Weekly

Hello Beauties!

It’s time for our weekly roundup of things and people we are obsessed with this week!

1. Frozen Grapes!!!!

I simply can’t get enough of this delicious and healthy snack.  It’s so easy to do too!  Just grab a bunch of grapes, wash them, dry them, put them in a zip lock baggy, and freeze.  My favorite are red seedless grapes, and I usually like to divide them up to make about 4 bags worth so I can snack throughout the week.  It’s a great alternative to eating chips which used to be my to go snack (I know, don’t judge me!).

2. EOS Hand Lotion

EOS is my everyday to go lip balm.  So when I saw the hand lotion during my checkout at Target this week, I just had to make the impulse buy.  It was pink, cute, and smells of berry blossom.   It’s a definite daily on-the-go lotion to have in your purse. $2 @ Target

3. Lydia Hearst’s Red Hair

We are really into Lydia Hearst’s red hair.  She looks amazing in it!  Every time we watch her on The Face, we fall more in love with the color.  We even convinced one of our mutual friends to dye her hair red.  All we know is that she is going to the salon with the supermodels picture, and saying, “give me this look”.  Red is the new blonde!

4. Lindsay Lohan’s Docu-Series

Yes, it has finally happened! Lindsay’s long awaited docu-series premiered on Oprah’s Own Network Sunday night, and we were there to watch it.  And let us tell you, it looks like a possible train wreck might happen.   Wasn’t feeling her diva-like behavior, and felt bad for her assistant (who looked like he was trying SO hard not to sigh and roll his eyes every time he interacted with her).  But we have faith in Oprah so we’ll keep on watching.

5. Bag Fashion Vocabulary

Okay, so this is the best tip sheet on the names of purses that are out there.  I think I might just print it out and carry it in my wallet to refer to it.  I prefer a minaudiere over a clutch (oooh, sounds so fancy).

Orange You Glad It’s Nails

It began with this ring.

About a week ago, I found this really fabulous rustic gold & orange elephant ring.  It has kinda an Indian vibe to it and was simply calling my name!

I was so excited with my new purchase that I had to have the right manicure for it.  Looking through all my polishes, I chose an orangey coral from Avon called “Orange You Quick” that I hadn’t used in a while with my American Apparel Metallic “Gold Flash” that I’m uber obsessed with lately.

IMG_8077_smAren’t they pretty?!

Okay, so before I show you my big reveal, I just wanted to share with you some of my self manicure tips!  I feel like a doctor every time I do my mani because of all the tools I whip out.  I should have someone wiping my forehead every time I paint a nail.

Tools Used

Earth Therapeutics Cuticle Nipper  $5, Revlon Cuticle Trimmer  $3, Tweezerman Matchbox Itty Bitty Files $11, Cotton Swabs, E.L.F Nail Polish Remover Pads $2, Avon Nail Experts Cuticle Scrub  $4, Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter 1.5oz  $17, Julep Essential Cuticle Oil $18, Alcohol Prep Swabs  $2.37

Manicure Prep Steps

1. Take off previous polish- On one of my Target hauls, I bought nail polish remover from E.L.F and believe it or not it’s really good for 2 bucks.  It smells citrusy good too! It usually takes 2 pads to to wipe all of the polish off.

2. Wash hands & apply cuticle scrub. I gently scrub my cuticles and push them down with my nail.

3.  Carefully  & gently remove cuticle.  Using my cuticle nipper and trimmer, I remove excess cuticle.

3. Wash & Dry Hands

4. File my nails

5. Wipe nails with alcohol prep swabs to remove any oils or dirt.

4. Paint Nails. I always apply a base coat before I paint my nails, followed by the polish, and then a top coat.

5.  Manicure Maintenance. After my nails are dry, I put some Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle butter all over my hands.  It makes them feel smooth.  I also put the Julep cuticle oil around the edge of nails to maintain my manicure and it gives your nails a healthy glow.

Big Reveal

I did one accent nail on each hand by simply putting the Gold Flash Metallic polish as an overlay over the orange.  I just swooped it on after my nails were dry, of course, to give it a vintage rustic feel.

FYI: I tried the Pam Cooking Spray Trick to see if my nails would dry faster, and it created some bubbles on my polish which I didn’t like.  It did dry them quicker but on some nails the polish would smear off a little.  At least for me,  still on the fence about this ‘nail hack’.  I don’t know, maybe I didn’t do it right.  If anybody has any suggestions on how to use the cooking spray correctly to quick-dry your nails, let me know!

Luscious Lashes

Hi Beauties!

I did some research and (since I’m a visual learner) I complied the best tips I found in this little cheat sheet I created to help you with those luscious lashes that you’ve always desired.

1. Conditioning your lashes with Vaseline or petroleum jelly before you go to sleep apparently helps your lashes grow stronger and healthier.

2. It is super important to curl your lashes before applying mascara.  Do Not, I repeat, DO NOT curl your lashes after you apply mascara because it causes pulling resulting in lash breakage. Bling Eyelash Curler  $1.49

3. You always have the option of  priming your lashes before you put on mascara.  If your lashes are weaker or thinner it is recommended to prime, but if you do not have that issue, then there is no need to.  Smashbox Layer Lash Primer $18

4. Before applying mascara, make sure to blot your wand on a tissue.  This helps get rid of extra product and prevent your lashes from clumping and looking like spider lashes (unless you are going for that look of course).

5. If your mascara doesn’t bend, you can carefully blend it at a 90 degree angle to help get those inner, lower lashes, & the base.  Quick Tip: use a zip lock bag or face towel to wrap around the wand so your hands won’t get dirty

6. Remember not to pump your wand in the mascara tube.  Instead swirl the wand and take it out slowly from the tube. This prevents your mascara from drying out and lasting longer.

7. When applying mascara, make sure to start from the base and wiggle back & forth towards the front (kinda like zigzig).

8. Finally comb your lashes after each application to get that nice flowy lashful effect.  Sephora Eyelash Comb $10
