Film Review: Evil Dead

The freshly resurrected remake of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead (1981) slashed its way into theaters this weekend. The film, directed by YouTube Discovery Fede Alvarez, took a different approach from the original but managed to keep the same style as its predecessor.

Let’s see, five friends, remote cabin, evil book. Odds of survival: slim to none.  Now, replace Ash with a female lead and boom, you now have great marketing!

Pros: Shiloh Fernandez, cinematography, direction, and did I mention, Shiloh Fernandez?

Cons: Even though the acting was pretty solid, I would have preferred Lily Collins as  Mia, the film’s protagonist. Aside from that, I  have no complaints.

So, if you’re looking for a few scares, a lot of gore, dark humor, and a Bruce Campbell cameo, then this is the film for you. 10/10.
