From the Desert to the Beach: Cactus Grapefruit Smoothie

Being a sample size is something I’ve always taken pride in. Like, if someone says, “oh, I just broke up with my boyfriend,” I somehow have to bring up that I’m a sample size, even if it’s completely irrelevant. Kinda like the time Anjelina Jolie and Brad Pitt complimented me at a restaurant. Those are the kind of things, that should always be known. Well, anyways, this past week, I was completely humbled while shopping  sample sales. It was a total “Mean Girl” moment. I was excited about buying new swimwear when I noticed that all of the samples where a bit…snug. Rather than being subjected to  more humiliation, I decided to just walk out and head to the local dessert shop for comfort. But then, I thought, “why am I being so hard on myself?” I mean gaining a little weight happens to the best of us, just look at January Jones in Mad Men.  So instead of eating my pain away, I lifted my head high and called my aunt (my go to person for beauty tips) and she recommended a cactus grapefruit smoothie, to help me shed those extra (10 5 pounds). And let me tell you, my body is back and better than ever.

*FYI: This smoothie does not taste good but it works WONDERS. It helps clean out your digestive tract, making your stomach flatter and your weight lighter.  For best results make this and drink in the morning before your first meal of the day.

What you will Need:

♥1 Peeled Grapefruit (if it’s super large, you can use 1/2 of it instead of a whole one)

♥ 1/2 of a Fresh Cactus Leaf

♥ 1/2 cup of water

Cactus1

1. Cut 1/2 if the cactus into squares and cut the grapefruit into cubes  then toss it into the blender.  Add the water and  Blend until it looks like a smoothie.

2. Pour into a cup and drink!

Now you are one step closer to that bikini bod!

Scarf it Up: Easy Ways to Organize Your Scarves for the Summer

It’s time to take that top off your convertible because Summer is here which means it’s the perfect excuse to break out your scarves!  But before you put on your sunglasses and wrap a scarf around your lovely head of locks and pretend your Jackie O, I came up with some creative ideas to organize and store your scarf collection for easy view and access.

You have heard the saying “out of sight, out of mind”?  Well I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty much how I am.  If I don’t see it out, I forget I have it.  So in order to make sure I make the most use of my summer scarves, they must be visible to me.

One easy idea is to use a pants hanger.  I had some spare ribbon, and made a cute a little bow to decorate it and hung it on the wall in my walk-in closet.

I love this faux leather basket I got from Ross a while back because it can be utilized for different things.  It is very roomy and fits many of my scarves!  I have a storage bench at the edge of my bed, and I placed it on top of it for easy access.

The Dollar Tree, 99cent store, Target, or Walmart has these small/medium sized storage boxes that can be used for storing anything from socks to scarves.  They also fit neatly in your dresser drawer!

Now grab a scarf, put on those shades, and head on out to the beach!

Film Review: The Bling Ring

The-Bling-Ring-poster-trailerjpg-744x1000 (1)

In 2008, I remember Juicy tracksuits, Les Deux, and the now infamous, Bling Ring (a group of teens that robbed the homes  of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Rachel Bilson).

Sofia Coppola’s latest film, The Bling Ring, follows the lives of those that were linked to the notorious crimes.  As opposed to making a documentary, she chose to tell a story that explored the concept of youth and it’s fascination with the rich and famous.

Being a fan of Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides, I’ll admit, I went in with high expectations. And I can honestly say, I was not disappointed.

Emma Watson and the rest of the cast, did a great job portraying star crazed teens looking for cheap thrills in fantasy world of glitz and glam.

I’m sure Alexis Neiers would be proud.

For those of you who don’t know who that is, here’s a brief history lesson for you:

 “The Suspects Wore Louboutins

Written by Nancy Jo Sales for Vanity Fair.

Now, on the other hand, when the film premiered in Cannes, real life victim, Paris Hilton told a reporter that she felt “violated watching the scenes in which the criminals ransack her house.” She then went on to add,  “It just made me really angry and upset, and when I see these kids, I want to, like, slap them.”

Well, Paris, you and me both.

But I did enjoy Coppola’s interpretation of events. 9/10.

To Dad with Love: Father’s Day Gift Ideas

For the past eight years (ever since I legally became an adult), it feels like I’ve lost a sense of time.  It’s like I never know what day I’m living in, let alone the month. From time to time, I get reminded when I get those pesky texts from my cell phone company to remind me that my bill is past due ( like I care). So if it wasn’t for that, everyday would be a a Saturday. But this year, I was reminded by a spam letter that read, “buy a replica Rolex for Dad” that Father’s Day is on Sunday. So then, I thought, what do I buy? So I decided to share with you some of my favorite gift ideas for Father’s Day.

The Row: ’14 Resort Collection

rowIn 2006, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen decided to become designers. My initial reaction was “hmm…that’s cute.” Well, seven years later and  with Karl Lagerfeld’s blessing, the twin duo is still going strong.  Just yesterday, they released their 2014 Resort collection with over-sized sweaters, high waist skirts, and expensive handbags (40k for a bag? Come on).  Although, I do think the designs are very chic and simple-especially to mix and match (highs and lows has always been my motto).
